Adapting the game's Japanese box to the European market
Airship City is a new metropolis high above the ground. In this modular board game, players take on the role of engineers crafting new airships to add to the city’s infrastructure. The original Japanese game already had a design but the overall look and feel of it was a bit too minimalist for the European market. Cool Mini or Not asked me to create a full box (front and back) along with a new logo focusing on a more immersive approach.

LOGO
We started working on the logo first with two different approaches. The first one took inspiration from Art Deco, a movement which appeared at the same time as airships. The second idea was more pragmatic with the use of technical elements.

FRONT BOX DESIGN
At this stage, the client already had a slight preference but still wanted to see how it would look on the front box. We created different layouts and color schemes to see which idea worked best.

Original Japanese artwork vs new design. The final logo uses the geometric shapes of the original version but with a more colorful and playful approach. Its simple shapes complement the vector illustrative style of the airships. The front box puts the logo in the heart of Airship City with an immersive view of the sky.
