Bringing change in continuity:
a Zombicide challenge
Zombicide is a cooperative board game franchise where the players join forces to survive a zombie apocalypse. 'Gear up' is a new entry in the Zombicide universe with a brand new 'flip and write' play style. While remaining true to its original lore, this version has a goofier, less serious approach than previous Zombicide games.
The design of the game had to reflect this new direction. I designed all the assets: (minus the rule book ;) cards, player dashboards, boss dashboards, a set of icons, a logo variation, and the full box.

CLIENT: Cool Mini Or Not
ROLE: Design, logo, box design
Cards & dashboards
With more than seventy instances in the game, the zombie cards were a crucial part of the game's look. We decided to work on these first, to find the design direction we wanted to apply to the rest of the game.
ZOMBIE CARDS RESEARCH
In the game, the players can write directly on some of their cards with an erasable marker. We wanted to bring this hand drawn look in the cards' design as well.
ZOMBIE CARDS FINAL DESIGNS
In the final designs, the title of the card sits in a bold marker trace. We used the usual blood stains of the Zombicide franchise to highlight the icons. We added a cutout wobbly frame to give a lighter cartoon vibe. The vibrant colors of the background also bring this pop look and feel we were looking for.
CARDS
The rest of the cards use a color code to identify their function. Yellow for any zombie related cards, blue for players and companion cards, red and grey for the bosses.
Box design
The box design was all about showcasing the gorgeous illustrations. We designed a logo variation based on the original Zombicide logo. In the bottom box, we tried to make the illustrations interact with the cards mockup.
